Loki Natarajan - Professor of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics

Dorothy Sears - Associate Professor

Dr. Kerr received her PhD from the University of Birmingham, England. She is currently an Associate Professor at UCSD in the Department of Family Medicine and Public Health, and researcher in the Center for Wireless and Population Health Systems at the Qualcomm Institute. Dr Kerr’s research focuses on measurement, intervention and environmental correlates of physical activity and sedentary behavior in older adults. She is the Director of REACH and oversees all REACH projects.

Dr. Natarajan joined the UCSD biostatistics faculty in 2002. Her methodological interests are in measurement error and validity, analysis of longitudinal time-series data obtained from sensors, and design and analysis of studies with multiple interrelated outcomes. When she is not immersed in statistical thought, she enjoys gardening especially with her feline companion, reading novels, and hiking. Dr. Natarajan is the Statistical Lead for REACH research projects.

Dr. Sears is an Associate Professor in the Department of Family Medicine and Public Health at UCSD. She is interested in translational and clinical studies of lifestyle behaviors that influence cardiometabolic disease and aging outcomes. With REACH she is the Community of Mine Study Lead for Biosecimens and Biomarkers; the Nucleotides to Neighborhoods Co-PI; and the Sedentary Behavior Studies Lead for Clinical Laboratory Studies and Biomarkers.

M. Jankowska

Marta Jankowska - Assistant Research Scientist

Marta received her PhD in Geography from San Diego State University and UC Santa Barbara. Her expertise is in the application of spatial methods and statistics to public health data including GPS and Accelerometry. Her roles in REACH are Co-PI of Nucleotides to Neighborhoods; PI of the Cross Border Study; Lead of GIS and Spatial Analysis.

Research Staff

K. Bolling L. Dillon S. Godbole

Khalisa Bolling - PEP4PA Project Coordinator

Lindsay Dillon - Program Manager

Suneeta Godbole - Statistician and Data Manager

Khalisa coordinates the Peer Empowerment Program 4 Physical Activity (PEP4PA) aimed at improving the health of older adults. She is passionate about building healthy communities and increasing people’s quality of life. She loves spending time with friends and family and being in the outdoors, biking, hiking, rock climbing, surfing and snowboarding.

Lindsay Dillon joined UCSD in 2003 as a Project Coordinator managing federally funded research projects related to physical activity, nutrition, weight management, sedentary behavior, and chronic disease prevention for pediatric and adult populations. Lindsay holds a Masters of Public Health from Emory University, where she also served as an intern at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention working on physical activity environmental and policy projects.

Suneeta received her MPH with a concentration in Epidemiology and Biostatistics in 2008. She has been working with CWPHS since 2009 and started working for REACH in 2011. On most days you’ll find her happily ensconced at her standing desk pouring over data files as she manages and analyzes data for multiple REACH studies and wrangles time variables into alignment. In her free time, she’s a keen reader of current events and has started knitting for family and friends. She dreams of a time when people don’t have to exercise to be healthy.

M. Dyer A. Barrera-Ng B. Lewers

Maria Dyer - PEP4PA Measurement Coordinator

Angelica Barrera-Ng - Measurement Coordinator and REACH Master Trainer

Brittany Lewars - Intervention and Recruitment Coordinator

Maria Dyer was born in Lima, Perú. She joined UCSD in 2005 to work in bilingual research studies leaded by Dr. Kevin Patrick. She is presently working with REACH as a research assistant and administrative support. She has a B.A. in translation from the University Ricardo Palma- Lima Perú.

Angelica joined the REACH team in May, 2016 but has been with UCSD since 2011. She has been working on various public health research studies since 2009.

Brittany holds an MPH and helps with coordination of training older adults to lead and sustain peer-led physical activity programs in senior/community centers. She enjoys working out, trying new recipes, and meeting new people.

V. Chen D. Araiza R. Ruiz

Jennifer Jimenez - Research Assistant

Daniel Araiza - Research Assistant

Rosa Ruiz - Research Assistant

Jenny completed her B.S in Anthropology and minor in Education from UC Riverside and is currently a second year MPH student at SDSU in Health Promotion and Behavioral Science. Her research interests focus on physical activity, sedentary behavior, chronic disease prevention, and obesity prevention. Her personal interests are hiking, experiencing SD eateries, and watching interesting shows (comedies and mysteries with controversial topics).

Daniel Araiza completed his B.S. in Engineering Science from UCSD and is now a second year MPH student at SDSU in Health Promotion and Behavioral Science. He is interested in researching stress and coping and mitigating the inflammatory response that chronic stress can have on the body. Before joining REACH, he was a Staff Research Associate at UCLA, where he managed an NINDS funded stroke prevention intervention research project with minority older adults. He currently works primarily with the PQ study.

Rosa Ruiz began working with REACH since 2015 as an intern. She is starting her phlebotomy certification training at Mesa College this Fall and primarily works in the PQ study. Her interests are reading and going on new adventures. She loves food and enjoys good company that can make her laugh.

Postdocs and Phd Students

M. Takamoto J. Bellettiere J. Yang

Michelle Takemoto - Postdoctoral Researcher

John Bellettiere - Postdoctoral Researcher

Jiue-An (Jay) Yang - Postdoctoral Researcher

Michelle Takemoto graduated from UC San Diego in 2007 with a bachelor degree in both Cognitive Science and Psychology. She completed her PhD through the Joint Doctoral Program in Public Health at UCSD and SDSU. Michelle's main research interest involves promoting successful aging in the older adult population through increased preventive health including increasing physical activity and decreasing sedentary behavior.
